A Hot Start

The first Roadhouse podcast is up and available.

As promised, the first feature artist is Joe White, who’s currently sitting pretty at #1 on the blues charts of garageband.com. We talk for a little over 20 minutes and play two great cuts: "I Won’t Go Back" and his previously unreleased version of "Folsum Prison Blues." We had a bit of trouble with Skype and the audio, so it’s a little rough. With heavy compression and processing, I managed to make the interview listenable, at least.

Also in the first show: Big Hammer, Kelly Bell, Paul Wood, and Johnny Flash and the Rockets – all fine uptempo songs.

Show notes will be up today. A temporary feed is available here. This will change in the next few days. I’ll let you know when that happens.

[Update] – The show notes are up in the extended entry.

Cool stuff. I didn’t expect to discover a local band by listening to your podcast, but I did. Johnny Flash and the Rockets live just down the road from me! Cool!

That’s great. They had one of my favorite cuts on that podcast – short of the stuff by Joe White. It’s great to be able to turn you onto a band you’re likely to be able to see.

Great thoughts on Dr. Thompson this week, by the way. I was moved both by the readings you chose and by the discussion of depression and suicide afterward. I had already tried to put it all in perspective here but you really nailed it. Thanks.
