Saturday Night Vibe

26 May 2005 2 Comments

It looks like Dani’s got the spirit:

I was going to talk about another one of WFMU’s podcasts but I have to ask:  have any of you been to The Roadhouse? Tony Steidler-Dennison puts on one cool show. He has that Saturday night vibe going that makes feel like I should be in a hot dress with a drink in my hand. This is one of the slickest podcasts I’ve heard to date and it is recorded in his laundry room! The weekly show consists of blues by independent artists with a couple segments on podcasting news and blues history thrown in.

Thanks, Dani. Musically, it’s the Saturday night vibe I’ve always tried to hit. As I told Trevor Cook:

I’ve always seen a roadhouse as a place where you put on your good clothes on a Saturday night, and kick up your heels before judgement on Sunday. Act the fool. Drink a few too many. Wink at the pretty girl just to be ornery. The aural scene of that, to me, is danceable blues, often with horns, always with a strong guitar, and preferably with a jumpin’ harp.

I don’t always get there with the show, but it’s good to know that that Saturday night vibe does occasionally find its way in.

I was a little shocked (in a good way!) to see that you quoted me. My blog seems to have about five readers so I am pleasantly surprised when someone new comes to visit. Thanks!
