Listener Comments

George:

Tonight, for the first time, at age 57 1/2, I listened to a podcast, and I’m glad to say it was Roadhouse 016.

I grew up listening to blues and rhythm and blues on the radio in Montgomery, Alabama. In the ‘50’s and ‘60’s, there were two radio stations in Montgomery playing these kinds of artists. ... They played low-down blues late at night and early in the morning, and things got faster in the daylight hours. When I graduated from high school in 1965, we were listening at night to WLAC from Nashville, WOKJ from Jackson, Mississippi and WWL from New Orleans.

By 1968, the black blues artists were mostly gone from black radio (except early in the morning), and I was listening to Paul Butterfield, Mike Bloomfield, and a few others.

For me, blues on the radio went away a long time ago. Hearing the blues again, on your podcast made me feel better. Thank you.

    hey Tony,
I didn’t get the latest show in my ipodder. I had to download it manually.

My friend from the dog park demands that I burn him a disc every week so I was beginning to worry.

We throttled the bandwidth pretty drastically yesterday while we made some other arrangements. I’ve had to split the mp3 files up over two servers and point the rss accordingly. Last time I checked, everything was smooth again. Your friend from the dog park is safe and in good hands. Thank him, and tell him hello.

    Great Doc Neeson interview, btw.

I finally sat down and listened to your podcast for the first time this evening. My god. I’m floored. You have rekindled my passion for blues. Johnny Flash and the Rockets is outstanding.

I didn’t touch my scroll wheel once. AWESOME

    Tony,

I was sent your way by your brother Mike and I gotta say I am really loving what I’ve heard so far (I am about midway through show 17 as I type this). Quite a good mix of as you put it some of the best blues I’ve never heard.

Here’s a couple thoughts I had for you as well…

    1) how about adjusting the genre to “Blues Podcast” which would make it easier to separate out of normal blues tracks or mixing into other podcasts for anyone using smartplaylists on itunes or similar features on other players.

    2) Maybe add the setlist to the comments field when tagging the podcasts. I’m sure many listeners want to look into more tracks from these artists and this would enable cutting and pasting to speed those searches.

Thanks for listening and I am definitely hooked on your show already.

Thanks for the great comments. I especially love hearing, “You have rekindled my passion for blues.” That’s the whole point of the show. And to think that these bands are unsigned by major labels. That’s the labels’ loss, I’d say.

Thanks for the great comments – and thank Mike for sending you my way.

I’m currently using the Linux command-line lame app for encoding and tagging the mp3 files. It just won’t write the tag if I try to use a Podcast or Blues Podcast genre. I hope they’ll provide more flexibility in future versions. In all other respects, it’s the best mp3 encoder out there.

I usually add the set lists to the show notes on the site. I haven’t put them up for this week, but as you can see, they’re here for all the others. Those include links to the GarageBand.com pages for the individual artists. They also include links to the CD page when the particular artist has a CD available. So, check the site after you listen to the show and you’ll be able to find all the music played.
