Welcome to the Family

If you dig down a bit in the sidebar, you’ll find three new additions to The Roadhouse family of participating labels. A big roadhouse shout-out to Oh Boy!, Shanachie and Yazoo Records.

Oh, Boy! has provided permissions to play their great young artist Slick Ballinger in The Roadhouse. He’s got a killer sound and is nominated this year for a Blues Music Award. Oh Boy!, by the way, is the label of John Prine, an old favorite of mine.

The addition of Shanachie means artists such as Reverend Gary Davis, Sleepy John Estes, Curtis Salgado, Michael Bloomfield, and many other great artists. I’m downloading several Shanachie compilations from eMusic as I write.

If you’re a die-hard blues fan, the Yazoo label is truly something special. Their catalog of early country blues is amazing, including music from Barbeque Bob, Big Bill Broonzy, Skip James, Roosevelt Sykes, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Peetie Wheatstraw, Tommy Johnson, and many, many more. In the days before Muddy plugged in in Chicago, the artists now released on Yazoo represented the very foundation of the blues. In combination with our friends at Document Records, we’ve now got a significant portion of blues roots covered by permissions for The Roadhouse.

Of course, more visionary labels to follow …
