Thursday Evening Blues, Pt. 1

3 July 2008 2,220 views No Comment

I’m deep into the first night of the IH Mississippi Valley Blues Festival. The weather, while warm and humid, is actually pretty pleasant. I just watched a strong set from the Kilborn Alley Blues Band. From Champaign, IL, they focus heavily on gritty Chicago blues. A good set, all the way around.

I also popped over to the Tent Stage, now indoors at the Adler Theatre. I just caught the end of a set by Ben Presage, a talented and pretty interesting one-man blues band. Drums with both feet, a cigar-box guitar and great howling vocals. I’d like to have caught more of the set, but came in late after drifting through the crowd for interesting photos.

Many photos of the shows will follow on the Flickr stream later this evening (maybe waaay later, but will get them up nonetheless).

Next up: Steve James and Del Rey, Carolina Chocoloate Drops, Kinsey Report, Otis Taylor and, to close the evening, Elvin Bishop.
