The Roadhouse 225

6 June 2009 2,248 views 3 Comments

The blues suffered a monumental loss this week with the passing of Koko Taylor. An entire segment of this edition is dedicated to Koko, the first time I’ve done so. Also on tap, a continuation of the new music roll we’ve been on for a few weeks. Zac Harmon, Alex Dixon Band, Jason Ricci & New Blood, Rick Estrin & The Nightcats, and Koko Taylor build a sold wall of blues in the 225th Roadhouse. It’s definitely another hour of the finest blues you’ve never heard.

Good morning Tony…it is 3:10 am Sunday, June 7th.and thought I would check my email before retiring and saw that I had one from the Roadhouse. I had not realized the Koko had passed as I must admitted to being a little behind on the blues news..which is really not like me at all…I am usually right on top of the news…I considered and still do consider Koko one of the all time best woman blues singers..and will be greatly missed. As I am near or very close to her generation I am very thankful for the “younger generation” of blues singers and players of this fine genre of music. Thank you very much Koko and may you find comfort in that big blues music hall in the sky….and as always Tony, thank you for your dedication to the blues.

Terrific show Tony even with the sad news of Koko Taylor. I just read a short bio of her at: http://www.kokotaylor.com/news.html and although I did not know her music that well, I do recall hearing some of her music on the radio when I was young. Thanks for doing what you do cause you do it so well. Take care, Jerry

I was lucky enough to see KoKo Taylor once at the Pocono Blues Festival. Her band played first for maybe 15-20 min. Then she took center stage. You knew right then the Queen of the Blues was on stage. The audience went wild.
