The 248th Roadhouse cuts a wide swath through the varying styles of blues. Though there’s no real theme in this edition, it is, as always, another hour of the finest blues you’ve never heard.

Wow, I’d never heard of Bessie Smith before. Great stuff, I just downloaded a collection of her stuff. My grandmother will especially appreciate this.

Looking around, there was also a Bessie Mae Smith. Some sites imply they are the same Bessie Smith, but listening to songs attributed to Bessie Mae I don’t think this is correct. Do you know anything about this singer?

This, I think, is the answer to your question from answers.com:

St. Louis Bessie was the stage name for Bessie Mae Smith, a St. Louis blues singer of the 1930s who also recorded as Blue Belle, and later on as possibly Streamline Mae and Mae Belle Miller. On some of her songs, it is thought that the accompanying pianist is Roosevelt Sykes. It is also thought that she was in a relationship with bluesman Big Joe Williams. ~ Joslyn Layne, All Music Guide

I’d never heard of Bessie Mae before you asked. We both learned something.

Check this song out. Don’t know if it would fit the show, but it’s pretty good stuff.
